Originally formed to offer research and analysis to the U.S. Armed Forces, today the RAND Corporation provides solutions to public policy challenges. Throughout its history it has had an important influence on U.S. policy. For example at the end of the 1990’s, the RAND corporation proposed recommendations to expand NATO (to include Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary).
